PROIMI is devoted to the reseach and development of processes related to biotechnology issues, specially in the fermentation area and the use of microorganism of industrial concern.

Microorganisms are employed in a wide variety of processes, some of these are: alcohol production, organic acids, solvents, aminoacids, vitamins, hormones, cheese, acid-milk, secondary oil recovery, nitrogen fixation, waste management, biogas production, composting, etc.

The success in the biotechnology process dependes on the knlowledge and the control of the physiology characteristics of the microorganism responsible of the process.

PROIMI has performed successful I+D projects, we show two examples of technology transfer from the scientific area to the industrial area:

  • The agreement celebrated between the Italian Company AGRIMONT (MONTEDISON GROUP) and CONICET (with PROIMI as executive unit) for the scaling up of alcoholic fermentation process with floculant Zymomonas mobilis isolated from Tucuman.
  • The agreement celebrated between BIOSIDUS Company, CERELA and PROIMI for the obtention of the probiotic BIOFLORA
